my ebony tower part 3 travelling

ah the library

i say you can tell the prospects of a community by its library or lack of library
like some might say you can tell a city by its quality of night life

and i saw why i do not frequently escape the walls of my own enclosure

it was a horrific experience
and it embarrassed me

and that this establishment and its inhabitants were a reflection of me
and i did not like what i saw

in a hypothetical if someone had a wondrous gift to share and rightly but in this case wrongly surmised
that within the bosom of books i would find many awake to admire this addition this gift

to start of there were these kids supposedly studying but shouting profanities regularly being dissuaded from their task
and to find a few hours from closing time that the paper they were doing was on the easiest of difficulties and they had taken the better part of twelve hours to do so
with the test tomorrow

and further more with their summarizing of their career path and their prospects
they had reverence nor any real understanding of path chosen

then immediately beside me i was beset by a person free from self control or reverence for the bosom of books or others in that mind state
and they began to snore uncontrollably
so bad it was increasing in decibels
and the sleep so deep that their phone a few mere milimetres from the earlobe could not jog them from slumber
so i assisted in tapping the chair

i thought what happened to silence in a library

then i happened to glance to my left where a woman was huddle behind a book stand
cross legged upon the floor breastfeeding her baby a mere hopscotch away from the toilets and secluded area
one could remark how it is a natural occurrence
but why on the floor with a thinly veiled attempt at obscuring others view
with ones body tilted towards children
and a few steps from the lavatory
and lastly why in a library

you would not do so in a nightclub or a restaurant so blase
in a sense lesser establishment
not one which feed your soul your consciousnesses
then i heard a guy smugly describe poorly to another guy book sections
then haughtily announce i am going to look for the science books
cue surrey accent
and later on i wandered upstairs
and saw their philosophy section
it was one row
with spaced out zone of three books

of books on philosophy not even philosophy itself
and then downstairs

the school girls arrived
huddling in the corner to talk about boys
and to inform you they go to an all girls school
yeah
note to parents segregation does not work
but the whole anti intellectual vibe their has put me off going

and let me not get started on the people who go to the library to play games and go on youtube to watch music videos

and i did get in these people shoes and returned thankful i have my own

this concludes part 3

The knowledge or the uni fallacy

that is the purpose of youth for some
but it is definately the purpose of uni

right
the old
but is everything exchanged knowledge
ponder that one

but carrying on knowledge
this intangible thing
where is it housed
and how can an intangible thing be housed
ponder that
oh the intangible has ties with the tangible
so if the tangible is horded you horde knowledge
well that is the theory

well

henrich heine saw the attempt

but as ray bradbury put it you do not have the burn books you have to get people to stop reading them

and then all you have to do is propose when
people should read them to have a monopoly
on knowledge
alah university

some say plato created the first western university
yes western

some say
this is the worlds oldest university
but rather than sweat the details of the worlds oldest we get to the concept uni as it is generally abbreviated
the place of knowledge
even if some of the people who work inside
have never been or are even able to entertain stimulating conversation
ah university
where automatic intelligence is placed upon a person even if their
extra curricular activities are anti intellectual

this list starts of with a course that you can study david beckham
here is another list though the joy of garbage is a very intriguing one
this one had one about being a jedi

and then you have
published this year about students being scared off of philosophy

so back to the main point about knowledge
what knowledge are people attaining from university at all
since you do all your own work

but concentrating on the fact that if you go to university
a place of learning
should you not come back changed
so if you go to uni and come back the same person
what did you learn
what did you add to yourself

and it comes down to priorities
some people who have never been to uni and do not read yet want to call them selves elders
questioned me when i first started
why philosophy what job can you do with that

and naively then i was defending it
which was validating your views
the point of learning is not for monetary gain it is the betterment of yourself
you can choose it for gain but that is what it should be

for you see some people are physically talented but not mentally acute

for yes it is fictional
this person went to uni did information technology
yet had no books in his house

for for some people as soon as uni is done it is like no more learning yep my learning phase is over

when in truth we never stop learning

one of my philosophy class mates used to say the greeks would say i am the perfect man
because he works on his body as well as his mind
and that unification is missing
especially with the mentality of just getting a job

a lot of people put people up as he is a genius
or she is a genius
question is what is stopping you
for example instead of doing business management
you did a degree in science or one of the social sciences

for what use is lopsided growth
men who spend eons in a gym yet cannot string contingent sentences together
or knowledgeable yet incredibly unhealthy

it comes down to perceptions again you choose
but you have to open your scope
university is not the be all and end all
nor is the lack of money
since knowledge is free
it is people who charge

there are free ebooks and there are libraries
and you can always be an autodidact

and this ties in with the previous post of elders and this post of where does your course run

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” Greek proverb
