I just saw this advert for what I heard about awhile back 

Useful for the Japanese Olympics

But supposedly it will be with us much earlier 

A lot of people have complained about the direction the advert took 

But I am not 

For me it is one of those borderline techs

It could be useful but could be useless 

We must think 

Why create a translation device in the first place 

And we already have translation devices

Aka our brains

And for a product supposedly about helping people connect it didn't show that in the ad

Because a translator is not for connecting its for demands wants and whims 

When you learn a language you learn the history

The concepts

And contextualisation of what at first are foreign sounds

How good you are in the language is down to your determination 

I've always said tech without soul is a dangerous thing 

The advert clearly shows who this product is for

Tourists 

With the fondness due to their level in the language for an infantile relationship

It also brushed over its actual functions 

Like does it need wifi 

How much battery power does it have 

How many languages is it linked with

How good is its voice recognition 

Is it google translate but portable 

Also it alluded to but brushed off the other important part of active language 

The listening part 

The big fail of guidebooks in the past 

What's the point of asking questions if you don't know what answer to expect and cannot understand the answer anyway

Also can it hear a multitude of voices 

Then there is the question of how it will be used 

Can it block out offensive words 

Imagine a bunch of drunk uncultured fools who are too lazy ignorant and many other things shout obscenities but you don't know what they are saying so you ignore it but now

now with this device and whereas before you know what they are saying 

You didn't ask for this 

True this could happen without the translator but those other people are either natives or will know enough of the language to understand your discontent 

Also can it interpret computer voices such as the other device wearers 

Would it change ungrammatical sentences and make them understood 

Can it only understand people talking in their first language 

 

Would it further alienate journey goers into an easier distinction of tourist and traveler 

How wouldn't that device with the mechanical voice not make you are target for theives and such

Also another facet to this device is 

Will it change the world 

Could it 

Would it 

It could change certain professions or professional spaces 

Such as airports with airport staff given these devices 

Or the police for foolish tourists

Another thing it didn't allude to was the price 

How much would it cost and is it waterproof and is it made of durable stuff 

Will it affect other professions such as teaching will it stop students wanting to learn and government funding 

Will they be banned in certain areas outside of tourist zones

Will there be as I said before targeting of people with the device for their property of their presence 

Which will defeat the purpose of a translation device 

My verdict is no it won't have such a far reaching impact but the gimmick has some bigger issues and goals behind it 

Such as skipping journeys for goals 

It could be the start of the building of bridges 

It could get us to think about language and culture and if they can exist without one another 

Also do we want that world

Is it or could it be the first step in diminishing the idea of a global language and usher in wearable tech 

Could it bred a new kind of traveller and travel experience a new kind of network 

But what people must not forget 

If you are for this is that you don't have language knowledge only mimcry of such but you can just turn off the device when you no longer wish to be understood

Do you or I really believe in the value if there is a value in sentience

So do we admit we would not bat an eyelid destroying a robot or killing a threat
But is ambiguity compatible with generalist morality
Or is morality a human phenomenon

So robots and non humans are excluded
Or after the initial outdated ideas they will be replaced
Or updated
So for now it is not a problem it is only a philosophic one
And the animal problem is slowly being addressed
And so ten thousand years from now their maybe some moral facets un thought of by non philosophers

Except for become cuisine and perhaps living in battery farms
Of knowing if it can be said their vocation their talents and are uninhibited by concepts such as class race and finance

before midnight

i recently watched ^^^ said movie
 a few spoilers it is not a stand alone movie
it is definitely
part of the before a time of day
kind of world


and this movie was a spoiler movie in more ways than one
it answered many questions fans
may have
dreamt up or wondered about regarding the series

like about jesses kid
or did jessie and this girl from the train he wrote about
actually get together
for the last movie
ends with him missing his plane listening to her waltz

i can only speak for me
it answers many questions but for me poorly
sometimes

and i think the character development was poor and shallow
and it is unconventional in its approach it
tried to shoe horn ways to have its series making moments

where as the previous films especially the first one
the events are background noise that does not intrude
this one it intrudes to often

and this felt scripted unlike the previous
and with the other movies
you knew when the end was it was central to the plot and it made it
rare and precious the amount of screen time you had

with that and other bits of the film i was not lost in the occasion
like with before the sunrise
and maybe that is what the film wanted to portray the lost of magic


and why i loved the film was the verbal gymnastics
and that took more a back seat

even though there are four or more main verbal based scenes

what i did like was the evolution of jesse
he seemed for me he evolved into the person you would think possible
after the previous movies

and we still have elements of his personal demons and his creatively eccentric parts of his personality and imagination



but i also liked in a way that it took a knife to the happy ending
by showing this kind of debacle
which was a deviation from fully evolved characters
and fully functional or achieved potential

julie delpy character is the character that sets the pace of the movie
she is directly the cause of fast paced slow paced and emotional moments
a character and i paraphrase to make it relevant that she was more interesting than jessie

and sometimes she was perfect
and other times she was horrendous
she was relied upon to heavy in this movie
as the metronome

someone said that might just be the evolution of her character with the pressures of motherhood
and i dont buy that and i know they even referenced it in the movie
but i think they missed the balance in her character



for when you see this ^^
you know what i am talking about
she picks about a billion fights in a space of one scene which i thought would be a passing scene onto the next scene because the movie built up to this

and one point aside from the fights i was like
and i said out loud
this is not my movie

one we saw her nipple
ok nipples
and this paint a picture in your mind kind of series this was went out of the window
for if there was ever going to be nipple in any of the series
it could of been the first movie
with the scene with the wine and the park

i think another of the movies problems was trying to cram ten years of back story into the movie
and also the pool of thought for the dialogue only occasionally
took a dip in the deep end

and i know it is crazy but one point in the movie i was like this couple
whos name i have forgot have a better relationship than the main characters
maybe give them some screen time
or their own movie

ok enough critiquing of this movie

just the thoughts now of what i took from the movie



will my youthfulness dwindle
for jessie was struggling and even worrying about the same thing
and will my unconventionality
stay the same and be a part of me or become an extension
like put on for some scenes like in this movie
or thrown in as references to previous films or to a previous self

and what is laying out there on the path of a dreamer a
person of creative ooze

and as julie said once in the film they were on parallel paths but now their paths have crossed
is that what lies ahead on the dreamers path

and one part of the movie really hit me
that jessie was trapped
to be a wandering dreamer or to continue to perform on stage for julie

for she was picking him apart
and even went of her way to say i do not love you anymore
and i know he was thinking dam this may be over
and in a bid to be closer to his son he could lose his twin daughters like he lost his son

and he came back to her in the vein of the guy from the first movie
with the best piece of creative imagination and poise of the whole movie when he announced he was from the future



and when she cut him down it was his last straw
and she realised she would be trapped with two kids
and that she would hurt herself losing the guy she dreamt about for ten years

which was kind of a reversed theme from normally they had to get together for a certain time
in theory they had to do the same because it would of been over at midnight

and in closing it left it open for another film

and that got me thinking during a recent episode
of avengers assemble

iron man


all things technological well he is a guy who flies in an metallic suit to go toe to toe with mythical gods and aliens

then we have
captain america


a hero from the past in the present
who is getting adjusted to the world again
and whos main form of tech is his ever rebounding shield

and i used to dislike him for his simplistic ways
maybe it was the writing and not critiquing the flaw of throwing a defensive utensil as a offensive utensil that whilst it is out of your hands you are defense less


and this episode touched on that well the opening scenes were iron man beat cap and obliterating him after knocking his shield after coincidentally cap through his shield at him

and it shows there is more to him

and it made me question the parallels
it has with us
do we have more to us

for he has to have more tricks than just throwing a shield otherwise he would not live long

and iron man was telling him to not be afraid of change and to upgrade his tech

but as stories go a foe comes that works effectively against tech able to assimilate it into itself
and rendering iron man useless
and so it would seem cap
but it is the opposite

for cap does not rely on his shield
but iron man and others rely on their suits or bows or hammers

and cap lets it be known that he knows all their fighting styles and quirks even his own
which the android did not know and how it got defeated

and iron man wondered how he coud do this all without a computer

and it is a growing thing in the current age

people are like


and are quick to tell you what is possible
by this unknown human quota

yet cannot define what a human is
and then you realise
they are talking about their limits
not yours

for when someone tells you of impossible think of griots


think of artists
and visionaries

for how can one who has always been in a box advise others of a place outside of its constraints

then it got me thinking
are we letting technology rob us
of moments
and memories

that we have become an extension of an extension
no matter how many times they flash they will not capture the art

for can you remember a scene of wonder now without a camera

why do you need to explore when it can be sent to your door via camera
