Dissidents dissing who

The descendants of dissidents and revolutionaries

What becomes of bearing a moniker of one reviled and branded
on t shirts and forums

how does one live in that shadow
what is it like
reading articles or viewing movies tinted with an outsiders depiction
of your relative or descendant
where as you may see them as human
as your dad or your mother
yet to other an icon an idol
or the personification of justice and resistance
perhaps even human transcendence
how about if they were martyred for you

for you and your right to be an equal

for you to never hear the words that they heard
see the sights they saw
for you to have to draw the tears that they did draw
feel the flames that flickered
and behold the expressions
that could reduce one to hate
as to fight fire with fire
but as lupe rapped needing something drier

we may think of the joyous times

as statues and being the centerpiece of an event
such as national holiday
but what of the more sinister side
such as guy fawkes day

a holiday where hanging and burning effigies of your descendant is wide spread and annually

but in the midst of the actions and exploits we forget they are people
some with children wives and colleagues

which is why i am looking forward to the untold and overlooked story
of the wives of malcolm x and martin luther king
and what they must of went through losing a husband and a father yet being famous
and probably a target whilst having to raise children

the show is called

Betty and Coretta

perhaps we can go away thinking of the impact we have an other have on us

Thanks to all the readers
I will be posting the second part to belonging very soon
within the next four days
